Blog Post #6 Public vs. Private Social Media

To start, the article I have chosen is called “Facebook and it’s privacy: Why it matters” by Micheal Poh. (http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/facebook-privacy-matters/)

The article begins by talking about how in this day and age if you use some form of technology like Facebook, it is very easy for anyone to gather information about you. He then explains that all Facebook users know that Facebook collects data about s and possibly shares that information to third parties organizations without out consent, yet it really doesn’t seem to bother us. One of the major concerns brought up throughout the article was the things that we post on Facebook aren’t really erased even when we delete them from our profile. Perhaps somewhere in cyberspace or even available to be traded. Yet, many continue to make post personal photos and give out personal information about one’s self.

While looking at Facebook’s privacy policies, it confirms Poh’s very concerns about our privacy. Facebook says they store data our data as long as it is necessary to provide products to you and others. The company also adds that the information associated with your account will be kept until your account is deleted. So we have fully delete our account for a photo or a status post to be completely deleted? This can be potentially dangerous for Facebook users as a user could think that their photo is deleted, however, it is actually all over the internet or on numerous servers.

It looks like Poh was right to have these concerns about Facebook. This new information might and should make incoming facebook users think twice about creating an account.
